NEWS FROM THE STUDIO 03.11.05
Now don't get me wrong, I do appreciate that there is concern about image here. By "image" I mean presentation. And, by presentation, I mean what the Northwest Village webSite looks like.
It's been mentioned that "wouldn't you think your own site might be used, viewed, observed and/referred to as a reflection of the type of work you do?" If I had a quarter for every time I heard it... uh... forget that ["not in this economy!"].
Anyway. This dot-com is a plumber's house. A carpenter's garage. The mechanics '72 Pinto.
I spend my free time playing around on this webSite. Organize. Re-organize. Add it to the To Do List. Re-arrange the To Do List.
I'm fairly good at organizing other folks webSites. The truth of the matter is, I spend most of my time doing exactly that, which in turn, leaves little time for these pages to be much more than a weird admixture of yesterday's intention and tomorrow's notion of "something to try."
So? Will I ever have a nice, polished professional looking webSite for Northwest Village? Maybe. But, not this week. Probably not the following week either.
I guess "water seeks it's own level" would be the rule. I work in the basement on an eight year old Macintosh (actually by choice - the newer machines are upstairs). There's usually a mess of coffee mugs and paper and notes and... all over the place.
Compare that to a nice restaurant, or a gift shop, or an accountant's office, where everything pretty much falls into place, presents an image of the business for the public, and so on.
I have no walk-in traffic. I work late and irregular hours. And, it's my clients webSites that matter - not mine. They know what I can do. And, thankfully, their word-of-mouth has been my greatest asset. I sigh when someone mentions the Northwest Village WebStudio to a friend, and they feel obliged to add
"I had to mention that you are a little weird at times, and your webSite is always in disarray." Hmmm
Happens. js
